Television Shows and Movies to Watch for the Vintage Fashion

1. Mad Men

Mad Men is a television series set during the 1960s. Characters like Betty Draper and Joan Harris provide great fashion inspiration on the female front and Don Draper takes care of the male side. There are lots of seasons to watch and you also get to see what children and youths wore in this one. 

2. Pan Am

Pan Am is a new drama television series about staff flying for Pan Am. It is set in the 1960s and not only shows the women in their vintage flight attendant uniforms, but downtime clothes as well. Each flight attendant has a unique fashion viewpoint so it provides lots of interesting imagery. You will also find that this one provides lots of great viewing when it comes to vintage hairstyles.

3. The Help

The help also showcases 1960s fashion from a few different angles. There are some characters that wear ladylike dresses that first came to popularity during the 1950s. Then there are the more modern stars who are dressed in newer styles of the 1960s like playsuits and high waist, slim fitting skirts.

4. Boardwalk Empire

Boardwalk Empire is set during the prohibition area, so it provides some really good style viewing inspired by the 1920s. This show is one of the better ones when it comes to menswear. 

5. South Riding

South Riding is a show about a young lady who becomes principal at a girl’s school during the 1930s. This show provides a good look at men’s, women’s and children’s attire from the 1930s.

6. The Notebook

The Notebook is a great movie on many levels. When it comes to fashion, the vintage inspired costumes worn by Rachel McAdams as Allie are well put together.

7. Closing the Ring

Closing the Ring has a section of the movie set during world war II that provides some good fashion viewing.

8. Cloudstreet

Cloudstreet is an Australian mini-series that is set throughout the 1940s, 50s and 60s. So you get to see many decades of fahion within the one movie with this one. Check out ex model Emma Booth as Rose Pickles and Essie Davis as Dolly Pickles for some great ideas.
