Michael Jackson: Fashion Icon

Michael Jackson had the rythym, the song, and the dance. He had the number-one songs, and the biggest selling albums of all time. He had the moonwalk, and he had the world. He told us to love, and he told us that we are the world. How will Michael Jackson be remembered in a decade or in a hundred years? Some would argue that his music will last above everything else, but I would argue, so would his influence as a fashion icon.

Many words come to people's minds when you say the words, Michael Jackson. Some words are good, and there are some words that even evoke bad feelings, but one thing is for sure, when you say those words, you are sure to get a reaction, and usually, a strong passion one at that. There are several words, that come to me, when I say his name or hear it. One word that always seems to rise high in my mind is: Fashion Icon. Michael definitely influenced music, film, and dance, but I also think he had an enormous influence on the world, the fashion world. Time magazine named Michael Jackson one of a hundred most fashion influential people of all time.

Here is a list of some of Michael Jackson's fashion forward pushing trademarks.

* The single white sparkled glove/sparkly socks/highwater pants

* black leather loafers

* black/white fedora

* military jackets

* arm bands

* belts--pants with belt buckles

* facial masks

* button up shirts over white t-shirts

* sunglasses-Yes, he wore his sunglasses at night.

* leather jackets and zippers

* fingers that have tape on them.

Some of Michael's signature colors are:

black, red, yellow, white, and blue.

Michael Jackson knew he was icon, and in good times or bad he always dressed like one. He knew how to use his trademarks in every decade and era. Michael sampled colors and styles from icons of the past--and he put his own personal spin on them. He was pronounced the King of Pop, by his best friend, Elizabeth Taylor, and he knew to be an icon or a king--you have to dress like one. Michael Jackson never viewed fashion as something with specific boundaries or rules. If he liked it--he wore it, simple as that. He wanted to make a statement, a splash. He was the King of music, and in my estimation he was the king of fashion as well.
