How to Dazzle in Formal Attire
Do not be afraid to add glitter or dazzle to your ensemble. A lotion with glitter smoothed over your shoulders, a glam sequined dress, or dramatic earrings dripping down are all acceptable this time of year. Going full pull isn't always in place; in the thick of summer, for instance, intense style tends to be toned down for light, airy and natural looks. A touch of shimmer to your skin, accessories or clothing will leave you sparkling through the night.
In terms of make up, the hottest looks this season are also very dramatic. Try pairing a smoky eye with bright red lips. Or, play up on the glitter affect again, and use a cream shadow in gold or silver. A matte finish is very winter appropriate. Apply your blush as liberally as you like and blame your rosy cheeks on the cold. The winter season can wreak havoc on anyone's complexion. While moisturizing non-stop (defense being the best offense against blotchy skin) is always beneficial, this is the time of year and the perfect occasion to bring out your fanciest make-up tricks.
Stand out in a jewel-toned dress. That classic LBD is a good stand-by, but if you want to step things up a little this holiday season, then jewel tones are a great choice. Depending on your choice - emerald greens, royal blues, turquoise or my personal favorite, purple - there is a color that looks great on any person. If you're tall, go full-pull glamorous in a gown that sweeps the floor. For shorter individuals, I recommend going shorter, to show off your legs and give the illusion of height.
The number one key to dazzling in formal attire is that there are no rules; there are only guidelines.Just follow your instincts and don't be afraid to push your boundaries. Have a little fun, get wild, try something new. Oh, and the best accessories is always, always confidence and a smile.
